Project: Affiniti 50/70

Mechanical Engineering

Pensar engineering designed and implemented nearly all of the mechanical cart for the Affiniti 50 and 70. We provided essential leadership for the project’s ME team (internal Pensar and external Philips resources). We used our process knowledge, along with our wider development experience and expertise to release Philips’ Affiniti Product to market on-time and on-budget.

To ensure we got the details right, it was important to understand the reality of tight spaces, high patient volume, technically difficult patients, and time constraints when engineering solutions. We’ve designed the system to include thoughtful details to help lighten the workload.

Pensar Responsibilities and Involvement:

  • Lead Initial ME Cart architecture
    • Sizing, CG, Articulation range-of-motion and DOF, Feature Sets
  • Harmonized Family Product Line with EPIQ
    • ID intent and Cosmetics, Smaller, Lighter, Same ME functionality)
  • Optimized Monolithic Card Cage Layout for Smaller Affiniti Cart
  • Enforced (Philips) Company Priorities and Achieved Project Goals:
    • Reliability
    • Serviceability
    • Extremely quick/easy access to all cart components and electronics)
      • Low Cost (half to 2/3rds ME BOM cost compared to EPIQ)
      •  Increased Storage for Accessories
      • Lighter, More Articulation Range, Less Power Consumption, More Portable (compared to predecessor)
  • Frame Design (All aspects from conception through detail implementation and final tooling qualification)
  • Cart Enclosures Design
  • OEM Peripherals Mounting and Cart Storage Design
  • Rear Articulation Mechanism for Service Access Design
  • Managed Tooling Activities for all molded and cast parts
    • DFX, Moldflows, Tool Layouts and Design, Qualification (FAI, CpK, PPAP).
    • Pensar designed the die cast frame (4 tools) and most of the product enclosures (15 tools).
