Project: Philips Industrial Cable Flex Tester

Good Design for Manufacturing (DFM) moves part inspection as close to the original manufacturing process as possible. In the case of Philips, testing ultrasound cables at the manufacturer reduces manufacturing errors and eliminates defects in their high-cost cables.

Pensar designed and built a complex, impedance-based cable tester that allows Philips to test their ultrasound cables before they are shipped internationally.  The cable flex tester simultaneously tests four cables of 262 wires at 1000 samples/second.  The measurements utilize a high-speed analog and digital front end to capture the magnitude and phase for each sample.

Pensar provided turn-key design and complete manufacturing of the T-Flex units.
